There’s a quote made popular by Field Notes notebooks:
I’m not writing it down to remember it later, I’m writing it down to remember it now.
This resonates with me because I’m terrible at remembering things I’ve only read or heard. Things I write, say, or respond to are what stick. It’s why I journal. Making notes is how I think, how I learn—and how I remember.
I’ve noticed this applies to my calendar too, especially with Schedule Us.
Remembering is the point
Calendars, of course, are for reminders. We even add to-dos not tied to a time or event just to get that helpful notification. But I find there’s a difference between events I put in my calendar myself and events that get added by someone else or automatically.
When I add something myself, I remember it. By the time the notification appears on my phone, I’m already anticipating it. But when something is added for me, the notification feels like an interruption—an annoyance.
It turns out, putting something in your calendar doesn’t just remind you—it helps you remember. Now, when I look ahead to the week or talk through tomorrow’s schedule with my wife, more of my schedule is in my head, ready to hand.
A hand up, not a handover
The goal of Schedule Us is to make getting things into your calendar ridiculously easy. But it doesn’t do it for you.
Most people are using AI to help them write. But some bloggers who’ve experimented deeply with AI discover they’re dissatisfied—not with the quality of the output, but with the process. Because they didn’t express themselves, they didn’t fully process the idea. They miss the learning that comes from writing.
Too many AI tools aim to finish your tasks for you, and while LLMs are improving, they’re not yet reliable, autonomous agents. More importantly, I’m not sure that’s what we actually want.
Schedule Us, by design, takes a middle ground: powerful assistance without turning you into a bystander. For me the result has been great. I put more things in my calendar. I’m better organized. And I remember more.
